why an Importan bug who compromises the access to the operating system
won't be fixed? Wouldn't it be possible to patch the kernel 3.8 to solve
the problem?
I'm going to uninstall Ubuntu for this bug, switching to another
(hopefully) working distro.

Ok guys, I have a solution,
as Jeremy von Hoff underlined, the problem is linked to nvidia drivers,
but it is not necessary to downgrade them, because adding this
repository (http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppas/27?dist=lucid), nvidia
driver and xorg are updated and both suspend and hibernate come ba
Lucid Lynx is going to be launched, but this very annoying bug won't be
fixed.
I bought this laptop because I thought it would be supported, but it
seems it would not.

Merging all the workarouds, as you made, now it works even with my
laptop. Thanks.
Anyway it still remains a bug to be solved. We are geek and we can try
to turn around difficulties, but Ubuntu should be also "for human
beings".

Well, the sound came out normally even when the jack of my external
speaker was plugged to the central jack (line out). After the updates,

To restore the correct webcam behaviour try to do the following
commands:
$sudo modprobe -r uvcvideo
$sudo modprobe uvcvideo
It will work to restore the webcam in other application (such as skype),
but if you run again Cheese, it will be necessary to do again the
previous commands.

I can confirm the bug is related to cheese, because even if my webcam
didn't work with other application (such as skype), giving the following
commands:
$modprobe -r uvcvideo
$modprobe uvcvideo
the webcam come back to work in Skype. In addition, if I try to run
Cheese again, the webcam stops work
same issue for me, but I don't think it's related to cheese. It should
be a driver issue.
I use the integrated webcam of my dell xps m1330.
