Same to me, no window borders in gnome, kde. ubuntu 9.10, nvidia, laptop.
After manual starting of "metacity --replace -c" it crashes.
After second launch, window have borders.
This is not affected by compiz, with no decorations, borderlessness remains.

i did nothing (i read a forum in firefox), the gnome panels disappeared, after
2 seconds reappeared.
the cpu freq. applet moved to the rightmost position.
after that, this bug reporting tool started.
