wrt #289581, I'm certainly getting the noisy logs, but I'm not noticing
that the cpu is 100%. Maybe #289581 is a symptom of something else.

You're right, it's not the complete file, it's the last 7 lines. I
tried uploading the full file (26M zipped) at first, but got an error,
presumably because of the size.

Thanks for the interest. I will attempt to capture the kernel log next
time the problem occurs. I assume that once I've rebooted after the
incident, the kernel logs in play at the time of the incident will still
be available.

Hi, I'm suffering from the same symptoms as described above on an asus
m50vn that's no more than 2 months old. To confirm:
. The machine hangs periodically; sometimes it's fine for a week or 2,
sometimes it hangs twice in the same day.
. mostly the problem occurs when the machine has been idle,
