fsvs is imo in intrepid now, so on later base-file upgrades this error
will occur for others intrepid users!

I need to use phase "pre-up" for setting the wireless mode and rate of device.
I know that the rate can be set also in phase "up" but not mode for madwifi as
it uses iwpriv for achieving this.

I have the same problem.
I changed my system from gutsy-alternate-server.
For me the /etc/default/locale exists with following content:
LANG="de_DE.UTF-8"
LANG="de_DE.UTF-8"
LANGUAGE="de_DE:de:en_GB:en"
I also tested the hardy package which also shows this error message.

In my default install gutsy64 bacula-2.0.3 there is the db host missing and
director refuses to start.
Would changes the config line in this way:

I have already upgraded via debian sid repos to
xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.7.197-1.
Now performing rotation from commandline with xrandr --output --rotate it
doesn't crash anymore.
If there are any difference between hardy and sid and I'll also try the
packages from hardy.
What doesn't work for
oh I see the origin author used gnome-panel-properties.
I am using xrandr.
My environment is on gutsy-amd64 within kde.
Please tell if you need a more specific trace / debug of this.

I can confirm this with an ati 9800xt and single / dual head setup.
