Yes this issue still happons in 14.04.
We have an issue with our storage on an ESX enviroment ~100+ guest systems were
forced to hard reboot.
All the windows and centos systems had no issues, ubuntu was stuck at the grub
screen and required manualy work.
This is crap and is bad for the ubunut
after a fresh install of 14.4 this seem to work.
mkdir libvirt
cd libvirt
apt-get source -d libvirt
sudo apt-get build-dep libvirt
dpkg-source -x libvirt*dsc
vi libvirt*/debian/rules
Change "--without-esx" to "--with-esx"
cd libvirt*
sudo apt-get install libcurl4-gnutls-dev
dpkg-buildpacka
changing --without-vbox to --with-vbox was resolved here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1103721
Why cant we get this done for --with-esx ?
it has been a few years since:

after installing the OS the welcome chime is to loud, (I look for mute

I think the welcome tune should be shortened and made to be 1/2 the
volume. Also it would be helpful if the default volume level was not
set to MAX on first boot. (my speaker system is loud)
