I have a dell vostro 1710, with the O2 sdcard reader as well, I had a
unix specialist look into this problem, he tried to modprobe the driver
of ubuntu 10.4 into 10.10 and it failed because of the wai the kernel
handels the the driver.

the bug is a different way of managing the driver by the kernel, tried to
insert the sdhci.ko file from 10.04 into 3.0. kernel, but it didn't work.
hope to see the card reader work again
my laptop is a dell vostro 1710, all hardware worked perfectly out of the box
in the 3 past years.
