The following example assumes the same desktop computer.I had Lucid

I got a huge amount of errors with the memtest that comes with Ubuntu.
Now I need to know whether my new ram is damaged or my old one. I don't
know how to do the file system check but it does not matter because it
is the ram that is damaged. I had to install another version of linux
until I can fix
Ok I found the command on the web but something weird happened. If I am
not wrong the command I was asking you for was: rm /var/lib/dpkg/status.
I tried that am it said I could not be delete it so I proceed it adding
sudo at first. I did that and it said that the file did not exist so it
could not
I could not delete the file because I need to have root access.If I just
could install Dolphin I will do it but I cant. I am a rookie on the
terminal so If you can please give me the command, I will appreciated.

I tried different strategies, viz. pasting both commands at once, the
second was to pate the first one and then the second one and the third
one was to paste the latter and the former one.
