Since I installed kernel version 3.8.2 I did not see the freeze I described
here. So for the moment I believe (hope) this kernel solves the problem I
reported here.
I have had only two unexpected shutdowns when the system idles for long time.
But this is a complete different situation as I desc
After I installed 3.8.1 the systems seems to be much more stable. I worked two
days without any freeze. But today I got another freeze :-(
I worked today with an external monitor connected to HDMI when the freeze
occures.
This time the screen was not corrupted - just frozen. Also the system did n
I installed 3.8.1 now. I will report it if the situation improves.

I have already tried the following 3.8er kernels in the past:

But I had no luck. All show the same behavior. That was the reason why I
continued with the official version 3.5.0-25.
But from now I will again work

Public bug reported:
I have randomly system freezes on Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit since I installed my
system on a new blank ultrabook (Wortmann Terra Mobile 1450 II) in December

When the system freezes no mouse , no keyboard, no REISUB is possible. The
screen is corrupted and did not update. T

I have tested kernel version 3.6.10 in the past and this did not solve the
problem for me.
I think I have tested most of the versions between 3.0 and 3.8 with no luck :-(
I have a total freeze every two days and I search the internet every day for
any hints.
One thing I figured out some days ago
In this debian bug report they discuss the problem on another kind of level.

For my understanding, the but has to do with the kernel graphics drivers used
for Intel Ivy Bridge (perhaps only GPU HD4000?).
I think the problem is well known by
I am using gnome-shell and I have also the freezes on my new ultrabook with
intel-ivy-bridge from the beginning . I don't think the freeze is related to
the windows manager. But to me it seems that the freeze depends on whats going
on in the GPU.
It is really hard to say what forces the freeze.
Please forget my last comment about the power supply. This was a test
with kernel version 3.2.27. With current 3.8.0-rc4 this was not an issue
- after system freeze I could plug of the power and system was unchanged
in freeze mode with battery supply. So the information was maybe not
very helpful.
Today I had again another total freeze.
I noticed something which possibly might be helpful. I use a laptop and when my
laptop freezes today , I plugged off the power supply. The laptop switched off
immediately!, as if I had no battery. This was strange because the battery was
full charged in t
I have tested kernel 3.8.0-rc3 and 3.8.0-rc4.
With both I still have freezes.
