cleaning of the old kernel. Usually after a small trial of the new kernel, I
use delete the old, apparently without problems. When I restart the system I

I'm trying bjaglin/Dominik's workaround (#37/#27) after trying to SteveE (#3)
that gave me usual trouble.
On my box, I have an ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200] [1002:5961] (rev 01), it seems to
give better results. No font corruption, no low reactivity of cairo dock and
the scores on benchmark of compiz
