KMS on Lucid has the same low performance than on Karmic, regarding graphic effects like Compiz. To have better results (more than double, if we take compiz benchmark as reference) I have to disable KMS by starting the system with the option "nomedeset". Then I followed the same workaround I followed on Karmic, i.e. that described by bjaglin on #37. What I mean is that is not just about 3d effects, the whole system is now more fast and agile.
