The "bug" is gone. As I mentioned in post #9, my system was still using
grub instead of grub2. My suspicion is that the upgrade from one to the
other should have been automatic, but it never happened. No idea why,
but it's no longer my problem. Also, on that particular computer I've

Brasero should always be able to burn a flac music file to an audio

It's happening on every laptop on which I've tried Ubuntu in the past
two years or so, no matter the make, model or wireless card... what the
hell is going on? Ubuntu wireless works on desktops but not laptops,
which is about as back-asswards as one can conceive.

As expected, I was able to boot the new kernel a few times, and then
just as I felt comfortable enough with it to edit my menu.list, it
stopped loading.
Mind you, I've been trying to set it to 0, as per the commented-out

Just that... I double-clicked repeatedly on a sub-folder of my "Videos"
folder, and nothing happened. The folder was clearly being selected and
highlighted, but nothing else would happen. I had to open it with a
right-click and "Open", which did
My apologies... My new HP printer will not print anything at all if the
ink cartridge is below a certain point, so my pages were coming out
blank, instead of spotty or greying out. Anyhow, I'm not used to it, and
I thought Acrobat was to blame. Not so. Once again, my apologies.

So, now it's happening in Adobe Acrobat 9.1.3 on Ubuntu as well... only
worse, I think. Evince at least was print frames and bars; I'm getting
blank sheets of paper from Acrobat as of today, or at least some time
this week. As I recall there was a poppler update just a day or two ago.

I don't think downgrading to Hardy is the solution, to be honest. If the
maintainers of the repositories would be so kind as to keep "legacy"
version of libgphoto (and ALL Ubuntu software, while they're at it)
available for people to force the version they need, that would be the

interrupted whatever process it was trying to go through by hitting
CTRL+ALT+DEL, or maybe even hitting the reset button on the tower... I

I'm using nvidia-glx-180 version 180.44-0ubuntu1, and having the same
problem. How exactly am I to fix this? Do I need to add someone's
personal repository, or is can someone just post a link to a .deb?
