i disabled xinerama through the "amdcccle" and tried to reproduce the "cairo-dock"-bug. No bug there. > I'm not using more than one monitor but when I did it a few weeks ago, I was able to use a Cairo-Dock session with Compiz and 3D acceleration. Or is it maybe just a problem with your ATI drivers

I don't think its the same problem like mine, but the topic fits. Update-Manager needs a password after clicking check-button. If you click "cancel" in the pwd-dialog, it rescans for updates, too. Whats the difference about using a pwd or clicking "cancel" ? Why you need a pwd to check for update
