Can confirm this bug in xubuntu 14.04.
ln -s /dev/sr0 /dev/dvd fixes it for the moment.
This seems to affect other media players as well.

I'd like to add that I have this Hard Lock on both my desktops, mounting a
Celeron (sandy bridge) dual core and the other is mounting a i-5 quad core
Sandy bridge.
Both system mount a Nvidia vga (gt430 and gt480).
I got those hard locks with Mint 14 and Xubuntu 12.10.
On Xubuntu machine I tried u
le to test on, so
perhaps that may be a factor. Having said that, the hardware
replacements are quite recent, but the issue had gone away anyway.

I expected to get the usual login screen. but I got:-

using a wired connection during the installation. This worked for me on a
laptop with 256mb RAM whereas Ubiquity constantly crashed.
I appreciate this doesn't help with attaching files, it may be a viable option
for installation though.

I have this problem as well, once in a while someone will try to get me
to add him/her/it as a friend on yahoo, I get the friend request fine
however if I click "Deny" it does not work and the next time I log in I
will get that same request. I have not tried the "Accept" button yet
