doing this in the console before running wine seemed to fix the issue:
export LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib32/fglrx/dri
Not sure if this is a wine issue or a driver issue now.

Turns out this was caused by console kit timing out, due to an .ecryptfs
folder.
Deleting the folder solved the issue

Sound card previously working in 11.04 has now stopped working in a
fresh 11.10 install.
alsa seems to detect the card, but i can't get pulseaudio to pick it up.
Nothing shows up in the sound settings hardware tab.

Seems to be fixed. Have a different bug now where the backlight dims to
complete darkness when on battery, but at least I can turn the dimming
off now.

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager
Have unchecked dim while idle in the AC tab of the power manager
preferences and also using gconf editor and my display still dims after
about 30secs. Tried deleting g-p-m files in .gconf/ and .gnome2/
directories
