This driver is in the kernel since 4.17 [1]. Before I used the media-
tree backports[2], but had some issues (inkluding the reported bug) that
I was hoping to get rid of. Though I can't say for sure wheter is was
exactly the same. I just remember that a kernel bug showed up in dmesg.

Ok, further looking into this, the dependency was added due to bug
#358654. However the postinst correctly checks whether update-initramfs
exists. Thus there is no reason to add the dependency.
