I asked my father to try to boot into the live ubuntu environment 10x and
record the results.
I have taken his notes, and filed the bug report, as you diligently suggested,
as bug #504641.

A final ubuntu 9.10 cd was checked to ensure that it had no errors (according
the the option when you first boot up the live cd).
Upon trying to enter into the live desktop environment, the cd failed. The
system in question has at least 3 GB

I am in the process of converting my father to linux (after years of explaining
why linux is better, he's finally ready!)
Anyways, via the phone, he follow all of my steps and even verified that the
disk had no errors before attempting installation today.

Installing on ext3 system with a encrypted /home partition. Consistently, at
79% ubiquity fails. The issue is not the ram of the computer; I have 5 GB of
ram, and it is occuring on the AMD64 build. This occurs on the 64 bit daily
build 1-20-09
