Here's something you may want to try. I didn't think it was a real
kernel parameter, but adding "nofloppy" to the boot parameters allowed
me to boot without even seeing the error. Try it out, I'd like to see
if it works for other people.

I noticed this bug when I was looking it up. but it was quite old (from
an earlier release) and was closed.
Anyway, GDM sometimes restarts when I switch back to tty7 (CTRL+ALT+F7).
