We are a few people here at the office that have the exact same problem:
Sometimes the login prompt just doesn't show when the screensaver

Gnome Classic have seen the problem. The guy running KDE have not seen
the problem. We ha
It does not work for me, since the 3600 I am using is a network printer.
Apparently the "Foomatic/pxljr" driver does not support network
printing.

Has anybody found a workaround? Is it possible to choose some other
printer driver and still be able to print in colors?

No improvements in 3.0 RC1 from hardy-proposed, sorry.
I tried the two urls below, which both gives 15-20 fps in Opera, but
only ½-1 fps in Firefox 3 RC1.
Note that the slashdot url is interesting: It scrolls equally well in
Opera and Firefox until the 'Comments' box (on the left) starts to

In Ubuntu 8.04, Firefox 3 spikes to processor to almost 100% and the

It seems that Firefox for Linux just has a bad implementation, but that GDK
provides the needed primitives to fix the problem. See:

I am seeing this too: Hoping for it to be resolved soon via 'apt-get

I see this problem too. Not 100% load, but 70-80%.
System data:
- OS: Hardy Heron beta 1.
- Machine: Lenovo T61p, 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia 570M (using restricted drivers / Compiz).
A bug that might be related could be 125970,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/125970
Could this be a GTK issue? I just observed that opening 'Gnome System
Monitor', then chosing it's 'Resources' tab (the one showing graphs of
load and memory usage) shoots X load to 50% (from 5-10%). At the same
time Firefox becomes very jerky, e.g. scrolling is jerky, typing in

I just installed Opera in Hardy Heron. It works perfectly with the
'presidents' and 'dinosaurs2' examples given above. Firefox 3 is still
slow and jerky. So it seems to be an issue isolated in Firefox, not a OS
platform issue.
