I suppose this is a bit too high for normal usage. Are there anyone here who
has observed such high GPU temperatures?

I have never observed this behaviour on my 32-bit hardy desktop (AMD Athlon,
nvidia FX 5200).
My notebook (nvidia 6150), which is affected, is running 64-bit hardy (even
with latest nvidia-beta 173 driver).
Also nvidia-settings on desktop doesn't show "Thermal Monitor" whereas on the

I managed to reproduce this with metacity with compositing manager enabled.

During the freeze, keyboard and mouse do not respond. Alt+SysREq keys do not

Sound output seems to be in a loop.
However one can ssh into the machine! No high CPU usage.

Bug #204868 seems similar to this. debdiff by Emanuel Steen there also
works for me. The debdiff seems to be more fine-grained patch than
disabling all ubunu patches.

This happens even on amd64 hardy build (upgraded from gutsy).
single-user mode boot results in a ncurses like display but with no text.
In normal-boot VTs only have blinking cursor without any text. The cursors are
positioned where it should be if there was text. I can login into console &
