Just wanted to let you guys know that if you disable the sound
notifications (system settings -> application and system notifications)
the CPU consumption seems to go away. Running an strace on knotify4
reveals the following. Note that this is strace is done on Arch Linux
and not on Ubuntu.

Since upgrading to the 9.10 beta my external monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster
172T) is not detected correctly anymore. Instead, the display preferences tool
thinks I have an "Apple Computer 13"" monitor with a set of resolutions that is
incompatible
I cannot upgrade this machine to 9.10 because I need a stable
environment on it, and I don't have another box available. So I'm afraid
I cannot be of help there.
