Firefox makes no demands when I login the web with a DSL connection.
Every time I use an external 56k usb modem, as soon as the connection is made,
I have no use of Firefox until go to the "File" pull down menu and uncheck

and watched all the processes complete. At the end,
I wanted to try some simulations of windows applications,
but did not know how to proceed. I closed Ubuntu 9.

I stopped using the PCMCIA modem as soon as I got a laptop with USB ports.
The 2 USB modems I have now, Zoom and US Robotics, work perfectly with
Gnome-PPP under Ubuntu 10.04, both at the user and the superuser level.

Zoom usb modem and my U.S Robotics modem, then got a dial up failure

Under ubuntu 9.04, both wlan0 and eth0 connect solidly and stay in place until
the end
of the connected session. Under 9.10 they do not. The icon for lan wired

router. Under Ubuntu 9.04, the eth0 connection starts at boot-up and stays

Under 9.10, an ethernet icon appears randomly, and indicates "eth0 connected"

After I removed the modem manager, I neglected to re-start the computer.
My bad. I have known for some time, that installing (or removing) software
requires a re-start.
When I did re-start, gnome-ppp worked fine, as below:

I have just upgraded from Ubuntu 9.04 to the latest version of 9.10, Karmic
Koala.
Instead of using "shutdown" at the end of a session, I use "hibernate."

As I understand, the internet connection is one issue, the browser
communicating with the DSL or PPP
software is another issue. I have no problem with the browser starting
right away on my DSL, but the ppp
won't talk to my browser until I go to Firefox "file" and drag down to
uncheck "offline."
