I concur that it is indeed broken. As ardour is something I use alot
this should be addressed. I am downloading SVN version and compiling it
to see if I can get it back.
I saw this on both ardour and ardour-i686 packages as well.

I see this on Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio but just with Jackd and Ardour.
This DIDN'T happen in Gutsy. I did notice /dev/snd does NOT have audio
group permissions PLUS the audio group wasn't on my system initially in
Ubuntu Studio or Ubuntu.

Do you have automatix? After you use it, go in and disable backports
with synaptic. The source this hal update is coming from is feisty
backports added by automatix.
