I maintain the gip package for Debian.
This problem is actually more a Debian build problem rather than an upstream
one.
A new version has just been uploaded on the Debian repository [1] correcting
this bug.

A newer version of lshell has just been uploaded to Debian. I should hit
the repositories very soon. IMO, the sync should be done with that
version as it corrects a security bug present in version 0.9.10.

One of the Debian users encountered a similar bug when using alltray
with fluxbox (as WM) and docker (as systray) [1].
I was able to reproduce this. Please find attached the output of
"alltray -d" when the bug appears.
