The problem does not affect the use of alsamixer to change volume, so I
don't think the problem is directly with alsa, but rather, how
pulseaudio is interacting with alsa with this driver.

I think this bug should be moved to the Thunderbird package (not that
you can get upstream to fix anything they broke from 2.x to 3.x). There
are several themes and colors this new feature will mis-behave with.
A work around is to create a chome/userChrome.css file in your
Thunderbird profile dir

When user changes theme in the Gnome-appearance application, the
.gnome2/backgrounds.xml file gets overwritten with an empty blank file,
preventing the user from quickly switching to pre-defined favorite
desktop backgrounds.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this... Wherever the 'feature'
originates, I have to reiterate that of the 3 gui volume control apps I
have installed by default, Sound Properties, Gnome-volume-control
applet and Sound Indicator, Sound indicator is the only one that doesn't

As a work around to this problem, invoke growisofs with the notray
option.
Example:
growisofs -use-the-force-luke=notray -Z /dev/dvd=myiso.iso
Someone might want to patch growisofs so this is default, as the old re-

If Vsync is enabled in Catalyst control centre, and gl video output is
used, then video does not tear, *as long as desktop effects are not

I can confirm that XV output in karmic and flgrx still tears. I can use
gl output, but that corrupts the video in interesting ways when using
Compiz (seems to work well without compiz). However, if not using
Compiz, I get perfect XV video output with the open source drivers.

SCott, you do not understand the problem.
The workaround you describe is already in place by default, the audio
devices are already part of the Audio group.
That doesn't matter however, if the audio is still given acl permission
to a specific user, when that acl is removed, audio applications get

Should this patch not be added to Gutsy and Feisty? I just found out
the hard way that most the backups I've burned to DVD since updating to
Gutsy have corrupt Joliet filesystems and cannot even be read by a
Windows computer. This is not a pleasant turn.
