The installer still crashed when I deselected "Download and Install
updates". It appears that the installer failed to read my Windows
partition properly or something like that.

Successfully installed, but only after reformatting the entire disk and
installing Natty first. I have not yet attempted to install Windows XP
SP3.

Reformatted the entire hard drive to start installing Windows XP SP3 and
Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal from scratch.
I installed Windows to fill the entire hard drive and succeeded. Then I
attempted to install Natty by resizing the Windows partition and making
a new partition for Natty. Installation
