On ubuntu 10.04, /etc/init.d/ondemand script (from package initscripts) can
conflict with /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils (package cpufrequtils)
By default, they both set ondemand governor for every cpu(core), using an
internal variable.
If one changes this variable only in /etc/in
I've found out this is not a bug (well, not a linux bug): it's a macbook
"hardware feature" (or flaw?: I can't understand why it's set up this way) to
lock the 2 cpu cores to minimum speed (1.60ghz) if the battery is not present,
as in my case (I removed it since I mostly use the laptop as a des

In Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) the metalog package is missing. It was available
in previous versions. It's a good "syslogd" replacement, better then
syslog-ng imho, so it would be good to have it again in ubuntu.

As a workaround here works this:
"edit" -> "configure notecase" -> "global" -> deselect "use system language
settings" and select your language from "language" menu; restart.

Anyway I noticed that if I connect a second stick while there is a first stick
connected and already recognized by doing "lsusb", the second stick won't need
lsusb (ie it will be recognized as soon as it is plugged in - normal beahviour).
