My desktop has an 3 disks. one is an SSD (for the / filesystem). I was unable
to install Ubuntu 64 bits on it because of this problem. Tried 12.04 and 13.10
both as a CD install and USB. always the same message. It seems there is no
/init script in the initramfs.

Folks, I simply erased the configuration forcing the system to create a
clean one:
open a console trough :
Ctrl+Alt+F1
find X process and kill it:
ps -ef | grep X
Clear old configuration (all unity configurations will be lost)... I have a
really old user account, so, I found 2 different paths:

I've been opening and closing programs like a mad for 20 minutes (to further
test) and the resident memory climbed to 155MB and the virtual to 190MB, from

I have an nvidea card, core2duo and 1GB ram. I've the upgrade from feisty
during the beta stage of gutsy.
Last night I had to shutdown the computer because compiz.real consumed all
