The status on gv says "new", but installing the fonts fixed both xmgrace
and gv warnings for me.

I see that under the gui "system settings" --> "additional drivers",
there are two drivers for NVIDIA
NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended]--Activated
NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (post-release updates) (version
current-updates)--Not Activated
