I recently installed oneiric on a Acer 4830TG, during installation
sounds was working, headphone jack etc. Now, the sound sometimes won't
work on startup, but then after suspend sounds works again. I guess the
drivers were reinitialized and it works. Still very weird.

I had the same problem with my HP PSC 750 and after a lot of research I
finally found out that both packages "sane" and "sane-utils" were not
installed by default in Hardy. After manually installing both my scanner
worked like before.

When launched by regular user Kooka does not recognize scanners
connected to the computer.
However, when launched with root permission (sudo kooka) it does detect

When starting HP-Toolbox it gives an error saying that:
"ERROR: Device not found. Please check the connection and power-on device",
while the HP device is shown in the left column.
The device is hooked up, powered on and fully functional.
So does this mean that ignored settings in gconf-editor are considered a
bug or not?
Sorry if I came off harsh, but it seems to me that I was not the one
bringing up other tools or options.

The only options I have in Nautilus are:
1) Open Movie Player
2) Open Folder
3) Do Nothing
4) Ask what to do. Which gives a list of the 3 previous ones.

I have to agree with komputes here. It is absolutely vital that there
are text-based tools to configure xorg.conf.
We are not looking forward to a "Windows" type philosophy being implemented
into Linux where the system knows best and when it doesn't, all you can do is

The key values set and read by gconf-editor are correct.
However, Gnome ignores these settings.
So, either gconf-editor is not handling it properly, or another
application is overriding the settings of the gconf-editor (or gnome for
that matter).
Of course I don't know how Ubuntu handles this in

If you were to check again, then you will see that whatever menu item
you un-select will show small italic.
So I think my point still stands. Just for the sake of the discussion:
1) open System>Preferences>Main Menu
2) navigate to Office
3) unselect all (yes, all) menu items
Result:
All
