and have everything work guys - just did the upgrade to 14.04. And am
experiencing this issue. And see no way to edit Nautilus preferences so
default behaviour is keep "hidden files" hidden. The edit->preferences

My solution to the problem:
iconv -f 'UTF-8' -t 'ASCII//IGNORE' -o output-file-name --verbose

The -t 'ASCII//IGNORE' option insures that the offensive characters will
be discarded from the output, and the --verbose option tells you where
they were in the file.

Turned out it was file permissions issues.

System->Administration->Startup Disk Creator to do that on a Seagate USB
external drive, using the Ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso, on DVD media.
The create happenned without incident. I can mount the USB drive and

I just upgraded to 10.04 and had the same problem on my Dell Inspiron
1525, bluetooth showing the message "bluetooth is disabled". Found here
and the last message "sorted itself out after two reboots." So rebooted
that second time. Am confirming the problem went away. :)

not ALSA. Its the headphone jack slot on my laptop, a physical connection

Confirm problems in Jaunty, upgrading to 2.6.28-13 kernel. Please

I was stuck in presentation mode with no way out - no menu bar. Escape does
nothing. I discovered the F5 key will kick back to continuous mode.
Closing at this point saves the setting as a global, so future documents
will be open in continuous mode. I understand now, but for someone

On Hardy, running GNOME Evince 2.22.1.1, have same problem. I opened a
PDF using the "--presentation" option. Now, every PDF document I open
is in presentation mode. I can't seem to restore the original settings.

Same as above - Dell Inspiron 1525 - Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy). Things were
OK until I changed System->Preferences->Power Management settings via
ScreenSaver. Screen dims after 5 seconds of inactivity (at Power
Management its set to "Never"). Brightness setting is not restored.

Have an Inspiron 1525N with Dell installed Ubuntu 7.10 and a Seagate
Freeagent external USB drive, so also this problem. Under Dell
purchased Canonical support agreement, I've opened a case. FYI, I
needed a working external for backup prior to upgrading to 8.04.
Consider me a test case.
