It works in my machine (Sandy Bridge i7-2700k CPU, Z77 chipset). The
"experimental multiboot" option hangs, but I didn't test it in 4.20
either.

Bug persists in 14.10. I had to put the missing drive back to be able
to boot.
A few observations:
* pressing Control-Alt-F(1-5) results in an unresponsive black screen with just
the five dots being repainted.
* pressing Control-Alt-F7 to go back shows the same as above, except every key

@tpo-deb: you are right, I didn't notice that the messages differ
somewhat. However, my point remains, Gimp 2.8.14 in Debian still
corrupts the file "somehow"! The original Nikon file does not produce
any warnings when read by exiv2, the gimp file does.

@tpo-deb: the proble is still there in current Gimp 2.8.14-1+b1 from
Debian testing/unstable. I guess we have to wait until the Jessy freeze
is over for a fix.

Sorry I have to correct my comment #10 above.
I found the direct reason for my session hangs and they are unrelated to

The Glib-CRITICAL errors are annoying and indicate some incorrect calls
from various apps to Glib, but not a serious issue as fa
Indeed, it even shows the usual "VPN connection has been successfully

With Christopher's packages, I still find this happening occasionally in
Firefox (flickering between the old and new content after scrolling),
apparently when free memory is low. I'm not sure I can replicate it
consistently.

I figured the reason for my hangs was unrelated to the GLIB warning.
I had a sub process of the main job blocking on stdin input when arguments were
missing, the main job was waiting for the sub process to finish so it didn't
exit(1). Bottom line: the "hang" cause was a silly bug in one of my o

Minor heads-up:
Those using Christopher's PPA need to either hold the relevant package
versions, or tweak the APT policy:
$ cat /etc/apt/preferences.d/townsend-compiz
Package: *
Pin: release o=LP-PPA-townsend-compiz-nvidia-refresh-test
Pin-Priority: 600
Otherwise, the numerically-higher version
wont fix here.

Hi johnnyb0y,
Your system feeling lethargic is unlikely to be related to the GLib-CRITICAL
warnings appearing in the logs.
They are just coincidental.
Check the output of `top` for heavy processes. In particular upgrade to

The GLib-CRITICAL error applies to many applcations which call
g_source_remove() with garbage parameters.
libglib2 changed recently to check for this error, instead of silently
ignoring it, so the error started showing in multiple places.
The hang in consolekit happens independently of the call
