5 years later, another random person on the internet spends hours trying
to figure out why the documented -t switch won't work, eventually taking
him here only to find out that the man page is documenting a feature

I am using Acer C710-2834 with Chrome OS installed via s9ryd script.

i'm constantly having this issue when i try to alt-tab around in my
windows vm. i've found that if i alt-tab s l o w l y, it works. alt-tab
at normal uber geek speeds bring up the search window.
e.g. alt ... tab vs alttab.

as far as i'm concerned, this is a security issue. having open avenues
for attack reopen every boot is not to be overlooked. even us-cert has a
bulletin on bluetooth security and the first item under 'how can you
protect yourself' is to disable it when you're not using it.

a bit more tinkering and i've managed to get it to work, but you have to
put the phone into usb debug mode.
on the phone, go to settings | applications | development. check 'usb
debugging'. go back to your home screen. connect the phone to the
computer. swipe down to open the notifications panel.
also, this used to work on 11.10. i loaded a bunch of music on my phone,
as well as ringtones and whatnot just a few weeks ago.

fwiw, the two commands to make it work again are:
/etc/init.d/alsa-utils reset

killall pulseaudio
i'm not sure if the fact that both of these commands work to resolve the
problem helps to isolate it. my very limited understanding of the ubuntu
sound system says that alsa-utils is a subset of
