I can confirm this as well under feisty.
Same message under both the feisty version (gtkpod-aac 0.99.8-0ubuntu2)
and from CVS (including libgpod from CVS). The file I have tried is a
podcast, found here:
http://media.switchpod.com/users/lostpodcast/ftp/lp_2_37.m4a (warning,
filesize is 64MB).
The
Forgot to mention that the file plays fine in mplayer (without images),
xine and vlc (both with images), but doesn't play at all in totem.

Ok, so after reading through this entire thread, I've run the various
things people have suggested in order to help debug this.
Attached is the output, as follows:
hosts-* - the hosts file before and after
hostname-* - the output of hostname, hostname -f and ping -c 4 $(hostname)
before and after
Unfortunately I've replaced that card with one that works!
