of the / bin and / home directories, later running a clean installation.

I can try to update the BIOS, but given that the BIOS release notes (see
below) don't mention anything regarding this, it's not likely to fix
anything. The issue disappeared for a while, but has returned in the
past month or so; I'm guess a kernel driver update fixed it, then
regressed.

I have recently installed 'normal' ubuntu 13.10 on a Fujitsu T5010
tablet (which is almost identical to the T4410 I initially reported this
bug on). The touchscreen and stylus inputs work as they should even with
an external display connected. Which is good news for me. I might try
this on a T4410
I have this problem on both Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 (x86-64). Happens on
both nVidia and Intel GFX cards.

Well, my problem is that the screen brightness is always set to maximum,
when I power cycle the PC. It's very annoying and disturbing, since I'm
used to work with 20% brightness, but after restart my eyes are burned

I've located the problem in my case. Apparently my mouse buttons wared-
off (8 years old Logitech), which leaded to sporadic short circuits.
However, Mac OS X and Vista seem to handle issue much better. Now I'm
using a new mouse and so far - no problems.

I strongly suspect the proprietary Nvidia driver. I have installed the
nouveau driver and the problem has gone away.

this bug is listed as fixed in udev 10 and up, but i have the same
problem in udev 11 with a 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVDRAM GH41N drive. It won't read
blank dvd's. It used to just find before lucid.

sorry, i changed the status by mistake, didn't mean too, i'm surprised
it could be changed so easily, that's strange to me, i have udev 151.11
but still won't mount blank dvd. does fix committed mean it will work in
the next beta, sorry for being such an idiot

Thank you for fixing this, Ubuntu! please use the newest beta version of
cdrecord over alpha 77, in the final release. Alpha 77 still gave me
compatibility problems, could not burn in all modes, however, the beta
released in february worked like a charm. Thank you so much! wodim is a
mess, couldn't
sorry, last correction, I just tried the new cdrtools beta released in
febuary, i can now burn at all speeds in any mode. Hope it works for you
if your still following this thread! k3b still reads it as cdrtools
alpha 77 but this package works flawlessly, its the beta released right
after alpha 77

Andrei, and anybody else who this may help, I found a workaround...
the solution to your problem is to go to cdrecord's website and download the
newest version of cdrecord. Lets say you download it to your Downloads folder.
Unzip it, and in the terminal type (without quotes) "cd /home/david(you'r
