All I did to get it working was fully upgrade the kernel. There was an
update to 2.6.22-14 a couple weeks ago, and I decided to try it again
and it worked this time. Does the linked duplicate describe your
problem, too, Jayhawk?

both chipsets use the same open source driver, they use different
ndiswrapper drivers. The workaround listed on that bug doesn't work for

Ok, this is definitely related to encryption. ndiswrapper works fine for
me on an unencrypted link. r8180 never associates with the AP.
So, either wpasupplicant or (my guess) the kernel crypto modules.
