My hypothesis in the original post is that, when the calculator should

I think that this happens when the document is served as application

David, it might be clearer if you start your own bug report, if Locate
Pointer has nothing to do with your bug, especially since the Locate
Pointer bug seems to fix things for Stefan. That way, people will have
a clean description of the can't-lock-screen-immediately bug right up

OK, I ran the testcase suggested at

copied the syslog as it was immediately after I logged in (since the
Network Manager had just done some stuff then too).

This may be related to Bug #9441. I find that if I turn off Locate
Pointer (under System -> Preferences -> Mouse), then the problem goes
away. But when I turn Locate Pointer back on, then the problem
reappears.
Can the other people with this problem see if Locate Pointer has
anything to do with it
I just remembered that my laptop also has volume-control keys on Fn-
PageUp (XF86RaiseVolume), Fn-PageDn (XF86LowerVolume), and Fn-End
(XF86AudioMute). Here too, the first two work but NOT the mute control.

I have this bug too. I can confirm that unselecting "Show position of
pointer when the Control key is pressed" fixes the bug. Note that Ctrl-
Alt-L (Lock screen), Ctrl-Alt-S (Suspend), and Ctrl-Alt-H (Home folder)
break, but Ctrl-Alt-D (Show desktop) and Ctrl-Alt-T (Open terminal) work

Intrepid), my Keyboard Shortcuts Ctrl-Alt-L (Lock screen), Ctrl-Alt-H

(complete freeze, black screen, Ctrl-Alt-F1 doesn't work) when the Guest
session /ends/. Or if I switch users, that's fine, but when I log out to
return to the previous session, then it freezes.
