I'm having the same (very scary) problem with Transmission. In this and
the following messages I attach the xorg config and logs. Two things are
worth mentioning: I never touched xorg.conf manually (everything you see
was automatically generated) and I use nvidia-glx-new.

Something is wrong... I'm experiencing the white screen when resuming

Fn combination reported multiple times when I press the button only once

correctly (but I'm not sure if I do), there was no

should be safe to simply rm it.

I recommend deleting the link first, confirm that the problem returns,
and only then download the fixed package. That way you can be sure that
what fixed the issue was the new package version and not something you
did manually.

Guys, I think something must be done here to make the availability of a
fix in hardy-proposed more evident. As you can see by the posts
immediately above, people are still trying to do the manual symlink fix
or even trying to install XGL instead of downloading the package and

Ugh, now I just found out that after compiling alsa 1.0.16 I can't install
the latest nvidia proprietary driver (169.09).
Why? I would understand if the ubuntu package nvidia-glx-new didn't work
(and it probably doesn't), but the latest should work...

I tried to compile alsa-drivers, alsa-lib and alsa-utils like in the link
you gave me. configure, make and make install went without
problems, but after I rebooted my sound simply vanished.
The sound was not working out of the box, I had to put
options probe_mask=
Sound is back!
I just found out that I had to use model=dell-3stack. This not
only gave my sound back but also finally made "Digital"
appear on the mixer list.
Gonna need some time to actually test the internal mic now,
but things are definitely improving.

should be enough.
