The Edgy Live-CD works very well for me. JMicron, ICH8, and the network
chip are recognized and work fine (Asus P5B, IDE-mode, haven't tried
AHCI). I don't know about the alternate CD. If it doesn't work, the
installer is probably still using an old kernel build.

The kernel on today's (2006-9-22) daily iso is version 2.6.17-7.20 from
Sept. 18, not the fixed 2.6.17-9.23, so it's not to be expected to work.
