The Edgy Live-CD works very well for me. JMicron, ICH8, and the network chip are recognized and work fine (Asus P5B, IDE-mode, haven't tried AHCI). I don't know about the alternate CD. If it doesn't work, the installer is probably still using an old kernel build.
