Craig's workaround worked indeed for me too,
i used sudo jockey-text -d xorg:nvidia_experimental_304 to disable 304 which
was active for me
then I also uninstalled nvidia-settings-experimental-304 as it complains that
a file of this is in use
and sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings-experimenta
they apparently left libgphoto2 support INTENTIONALLY to be able to ship
digikam 2.1.1

just had same issue, configure just hangs...

re adblock(+). I did have it installed from the net, just tried the
ubuntu package. trying to load the site crashes FF immediately. Without
any addons, it's been stable so far.

hmmm, not sure. but filterset.G seems involved too.
installing that seems to trigger it. Weird part is that even when you uninstall
it, it still happens. you need to uninstall/reinstall adblock.
(sorry for spamming with comments, hope it helps someone)

ok, I think I found the culprit.
when I install adblock it crashes. Even when adblock is disabled ff crashes on
mentioned site.
I uninstalled adblock on the original profile and it no longer crashes...
Adblock+ seems fine

I did not have the problem, but another account on the same computer did. FF3
crashes immediately after trying to load the above website.
I renamed ~/.mozilla/plugins/flashplayer.xpt to something else, just to test if
it helped and now the site loads fine...
the file is there too in my account bu

Ok I fixed it on my installation(kubuntu dapper 6.06.1) by applying the patch
from CVS manually.
Here's what I did (more or less) for those interested in doing the same. It's
from memory so you might need to fiddle with it a bit.
sudo apt-get install apt-src
sudo apt-src install libgl1-mesa

I confirm this bug on a voodoo banshee.
Direct rendering is enabled.
I tried the upgrading to a later version by using the edgy repositories. It
upgraded the xorg.core, xorg.tdfx (and all others) , glide3 , and installed a
new gcc package.
However i could get even less to run ,glxgears and glxinf
