Just noticed a similar thing happens with Evolution: occasionally it
only leaves a File->Close (Ctrl-W) menu option, which must be a
reminiscent from another window, as the Evolution main window doesn't
have an option like that.

I can confirm that after an upgrade from Hardy to Intrepid just a few
days ago the battery behaviour got worse. I am now on 2.6.27-7-generic
