Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
With a non-existing xorg.conf file, my (Samsung 2443BW) monitor is not detected properly. Max resolution found is 1600x1200, while it should be 1920x1200. The mode line is seen in the Xorg.log: (II) VESA(0): Modeline "1920x1200"x0.0 154.00 1920 1968 2000 2080 1200 1203 1209 1235 +hsync -vsync (74.0 kHz) But it's not used. Also, although xserver-xorg-video-radeon is installed, there is no reference to that module being loaded at start. lshw in turn lists the graphics controller as unclaimed: *-display UNCLAIMED description: VGA compatible controller product: Radeon HD 3200 Graphics vendor: ATI Technologies Inc physical id: 5 bus info: p...@0000:01:05.0 version: 00 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm msi bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 resources: memory:d8000000-dfffffff(prefetchable) ioport:ee00(size=256) memory:fdbe0000-fdbeffff memory:fda00000-fdafffff Two problems I think I see are: - radeon module not being used - vesa module not using a big enough virtual screen size Let me know what more info is needed. # lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu karmic (development branch) Release: 9.10 # apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 Candidate: 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 Version table: *** 1:7.4+3ubuntu5 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Does not detect 1920x1200 resolution with radeon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/432078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
