I have experienced this bug today. Installing ulatencyd renders an
unbootable system (because it causes kernel panic). Uninstalling it
solves the problem.

I am not an expert in acpi. From your experience do you think this might be a
kernel bug or a bug in grub? Sorry if this is an obvious question, I just
thought I might throw this out there for people who know more about this to
consider.

To notice the unresponsiveness pile up some lines of blocks and keep using the
arrow-down key to lower blocks faster.
You will notice after a while that it will become a lot less responsive.

I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope.
Apparently the game starts becoming more and more unresponsive with time.
Also the game can become responsive again when you fill a line.
So if you keep stacking blocks but don't fill any lines it will become less and

The issue is present with metacity if you enable compositing.
Maybe it could be an incompatibility of virtualbox towards compositing window
managers or 3d acceleration in general. Maybe it's specific to nvidia cards? I

I have a similar problem which is probably related to this bug. I'm
running a Windows XP guest and an Ubuntu (with compiz) host. When I
don't have any open windows on the guest, my gnome-panels aren't visible
on the host. The same thing happens if I maximize a window on the guest.

I've just installed restricted drivers and can confirm this bug. Just a
quick suggestion, if you can't display progress you could use one of
those progress bars that don't show progress percent but show that the
app is doing something. Not sure how those are called.

Just want to mention that MacBook5,1 seems to be able to boot Linux with ACPI

MacBook5,2 won't boot Linux unless you use the acpi=off option.
Again if someone can say differently, please do.

These are other issues I forgot to mention that might be related.
When I check /proc/cpuinfo it reports the CPU as being single core, even though
it is actually dual core.

Added information: I have tried the nvidia restricted module version 177 and
version 180.
Right now I am using version 180.
Another issue I have is that when I shut down the computer it won't halt.
It stays On with a blank screen and a blinking cursor. I have to shut it down
forcefully.
