Unexpected behavior also with Alt+Shift combination with three
languages. Each time I've trying to switch back to English I see "En" on
the keyboard indicator applet but in fact I continue typing using
previous language, not English...

Confirmed, the patch at the bottom along with installing the package
"libsocket-getaddrinfo-perl" appears to have fixed the problems.

I'm using a Dell Studio 1458 with network controller: Broadcom
Corporation BCM43224 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 01) and running Maverick 10.10.
Using the workaround command seems to help with performance.

Oh, oops. Forgot to run sudo ifup lo. Once that's done, my session is
back to normal. Possibly gnome-settings-daemon seems to use it for
communication; thus, a possible solution is to let NetworkManager manage
lo.

I can confirm that this bug occurs for me as well, except I do get my
theme and background etc. I still have the long load time for gnome, and
the same gnome-settings message. I haven't tried disabling by touchpad,
however.
