Same problem in my Laptop and PC also I have used Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
version, both have 8 GB Ram, while coping 3GB file (a single Movie) to
my mobile sd card or My 1 TB western external hard drive the system

tried the solutin in this page. https://launchpad.net/~firefox-smooth-

worked very well until firefox was updated. after update, all images are
blurred again..

U r correct. The suggestion in Comment #9 is applicable only if grub2 is used.
If grub is used the below command can be used
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
to edit and replace kernel parameters

Mostly it seems to hang, while working in firefox displaying many high
resolution pictures in a web page (or in gmail) and scroll using the
mouse scroll button. But hangs in some unexpected time also.
