Seems to be solved. Am now running with full-screen of the larger

Under Maverick, I could connect my Acer (AOA150) netbook (1024x600) to a
1024x768 monitor and use gnome-display-properties to turn the netbook
screen off and use the monitor at full resolution. With Natty Alpha 3,
the same procedure

and figured I'd use it on something I was familiar with.
