This is the fix/workaround. The ALSA drivers must be downloaded and
manually recompiled:

Same thing happening here. Did not install the update until Sep 1, but
sound immediately stopped working after reboot. Same exact messages as
above. Only solution I've found is to boot using the 2.6.20-15.27
generic kernel (which installed with Feisty). I have not found any way
