Same thing happening here.  Did not install the update until Sep 1, but
sound immediately stopped working after reboot.  Same exact messages as
above.  Only solution I've found is to boot using the 2.6.20-15.27
generic kernel (which installed with Feisty).  I have not found any way
to go back to the previously functioning 2.6.20-16.29 which did work
properly, sound and all.  Several searches online have failed looking
for a .deb file to install.

I have downloaded the 2.6.20-16.29 source from here:

I have never compiled a kernel before and have no idea what all of the
"make configure" options are.  I would prefer a
linux-2.6.20-16.29-generic.deb file to download from somewhere, install
it and go back to the previous version which did work just fine.
