I have installed 12.04.1 on a fresh system with an Asus P8B75-M
motherboard. There are no additional drivers installed but the failure
of the VNC server to update screen/window changes is exhibited. However

With Lucid, plugging in an external keyboard does not now seem to affect
the laptop keyboard but the external keymap is not recognised correctly.
ie if the Asus laptop keyboard is UK and the external keyboard is Dell

update-rc.d defaults does not create a runlevel 2 startup link
The manual shows the defaults as: update-rc.d foobar start 20 2 3 4 5 .
stop 20 0 1 6 .
but the runlevel 2 link is not actually created when installing axigen

reconfiguring xorg could get beyond a command prompt. In the end I
had to reformat the machine using a clean 8.10 install. Whether the two
problems were related I do not know but that finally fixed it! Before
upgrading save any vital data to some other device.

Firestarter crashes are interfering with backups which is rather
concerning. The following error when running Firestarter using ssh X11
may be assistance:

check before it was installed. Once a faulty file is installed it is
something of an uphill struggle to rectify the problem.

start. This problem is repeatable. A way round this is to startup using
the recovery mode startup option and then run Xorg -configure
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
