It looks like typing notifications are broken for all XMPP chats - I see
not typing notifications when chatting to people via a Jabber server.

Public bug reported:
Querying ntext data (unicode text) from Microsoft SQL Server 2000 gives
the following error:
"Unicode data in a Unicode-only collation or ntext data cannot be sent
to clients using DB-Library (such as ISQL) or ODBC version 3.7 or

It's such a shame that it's taken this long to elicit an explanation
from the packaging team, instead of just "php5-sybase provides
php5-mssql now". Obviously if php5-sybase provides true MSSQL support as
well as Sybase support then this bug is not valid (any more).
There are people here who know
Why are you guys so reluctant to make such a small change to include
better MS SQL Server support?
Can you imagine the (correct, IMO) response from the PHP guys to a
request to add better MSSQL support to the Sybase extension? I bet it
would be "No, the functionality is already there in the MSSQL
It's been a while since I've been working with MSSQL, which is why I'm
only just revisiting this bug.
The Sybase (DBLIB) drivers do not provide all the functionality needed
when using a Microsoft SQL Server DB. For example, using this driver
with PDO reports that transactions and stored procedures
It has only happened once and I've not been able to reproduce it. I
think Firebug is the only extension I have installed and that hasn't
caused any problems before or since.
This happened at work, so I'll try again to reproduce it on Monday.

I have this problem too. However, it had been working fine, so I can
only imagine that an update has broken it. Sadly I don't need to connect
to my VPN very often, so it might have broken from a patch months ago
and I'd not have noticed.

network-manager-applet no longer produces/provides usr/b
I've just used the instructions compucoder linked to in comment 2 and
they worked like a charm. The modifications the need to be made to the
config files in the 'debian' directory of the source package are
minimal.

No, they really aren't. If you have to use MS SQL Server in an
"enterprise" environment, as is the case for me, the Sybase extension
isn't up to the job. The mssql_* functions it provides are in fact
aliases to sybase_* functions, and they don't behave in the same way as
the true mssql_* functions,
Hmm. Well, I've tried three times to raise a bug for OMFS today, but
keep seeing a Launchpad timeout error. Fortunately I think I was wrong
in saying it's required for this Amarok patch - it's just that this
patch won't be useful without it. Happily too, installing OMFS support

Ah, thanks for taking a look Andrew. I clearly should have been a little
more explicit about what is required. I can't help thinking that
writing-up a spec for this change would be a little bureaucratic!
As you say, the --with-libkarma configuration flag is required. Three

Binary package hint: amarok
Since v.1.4.4 Amarok has had support for Rio Karma DAPs. In Feisty could
this support either be enabled by default or made available as a

Using freetds it's fairly trivial to install an appropriate mssql.so,
but it still requires downloading and compiling PHP and when a security
update for the standard PHP packages is released, having a self-compiled
mssql.so causes a seg fault.

When trying to mount an OMFS volume, such as a Rio Karma music device

Yep, I have the same problem using an onboard i810 and an SiS card - I'm
eagerly awaiting a fix cos I'm using Dapper at work and programming is
much more convenient with dual-head.
I already look a bit stupid having recommended Ubuntu to all my
colleagues and then been seen with a broken dual-head
